The Stradbroke Day again proved to be a lucky day for Guy Racing after taking out the the Group One Queensland Derby with Eagle Way. The son of More Than Ready out of Wedgetail Eagle proved far too strong in the mile and a half event which was held on the new Eagle Farm surface. The day has been lucky in the past with Bryan winning both the Stradbroke with All Our Mob and the now JJ Atkins with Ravarda but this win was one of the sweetest he has had in a long time as it has always been an ambition to win a Derby. Eagle Way is owned by champion Hong Kong trainer John Moore and Guy Racing are especially thankful that John firstly placed Eagle Way with the stable and secondly left the horse in Queensland for the Derby after three impressive wins over the summer. While it will be disappointing to see such a high class horse leave the stable it will also be very satisfying to watch the next chapter of Eagle Way’s career when he takes on Hong Kong and hopefully secure his second Derby in 2017. Eagle Way was very well ridden by Tommy Berry who praised Eagle Way and the untapped ability that the horse has and commented that he feels that the best is yet to come from the lightly raced gelding.

Guy Racing would like to thank all the stable staff and his regular track work rider Kris as without the team effort results like this can not be achieved. Also Paul Hammersley deserves praise for the way that he has ridden the horse firstly in the summer for three consecutive wins and then in his lead up races to then Derby.
