Snapper Rocks scored an impressive five and a half lengths victory at the Gold Coast today with the win continuing the great run being had by Guy Racing. Daniel Griffin rode the son of Captain Sondor and was impressed with the way he found the line commenting that he believes that in time he will develop into a more than handy stayer. Bryan explained after the race that he had originally earmarked the Queensland Derby for Snapper Rocks but after a luckless last couple of runs in harder company he lacked the maturity that is needed to win a Derby. Bryan has now forecast a long range plan to target next years Ipswich Cup, a race he has won previously with Anagold whom he compared Snapper Rocks with after todays victory “I had a mare a few years ago who ran in the Oaks but lacked the maturity but in time she developed into good stayer and was able to win an Ipswich Cup and if you look at Snapper Rock’s form line they are comparable so I will give Snapper Rocks every chance to repeat that feat”. Snapper Rocks is owned by Peter Simpson-Morgan who raced handy stayer Noisy Ocean who ran second in an Ipswich Cup and he is a half brother to Snapper Rocks.
