Eagle Way has been announced Champion Three Year Old at The Racing Queensland Thoroughbred Awards Gala event held at Doomben Racecourse. This was a fitting result for the son of More Than Ready who won the Group One Queensland Derby in a dominant staying performance. The award was accepted by Bryan Guy on behalf of his owner John Moore, Bryan was full of praise for Eagle Way and the way that had he had matured since entering his stable in early November last year “He was a pleasure to train and continued to improve with each run and seemed to thrive on each increase in distance. It is hard to believe but I generally thought he had a great chance in the Derby as far back as early January and I was so thankful that John left him with me and I was able to repay him with the Derby and I can’t wait to watch the next chapter in his racing career in Hong Kong”. Bryan also acknowledged the big part that Paul Hammersley played in getting the horse to the Derby and the professionalism he showed with a terrific ride in the Grand Prix in what was Eagle Way’s final start before the Derby.
Bryan also pointed out another important aspect to Eagle Way getting this award has been the fantastic support that was given by the Gold Coast Turf Club and its staff especially Steve Andrews. It is evident that to win good races the training tracks have to be in good order and this is the case at the Gold Coast as without this Eagle Way may not have won the Derby.
