Robbers Cobber headed to Ipswich today in the Infield DJ Festival Benchmark 70 Handicap looking to regain winning form under the guidance of jockey Paul Hammersley and the son of Star Witness didn’t disappoint scoring by two and a half lengths and in doing so bringing up his fourth win after settling midfield before unleashing a strong run at the six hundred metre mark quickly reeling in his rivals to record a soft win in the end.
Co Trainer Bryan Guy was confident going into today’s event citing Robbers Cobbers good track and distance record along with his record with jockey Paul Hammersley as the rider “He drew perfect today and he loves Ipswich and on paper there looked good speed in the race which enabled him to settle and when Paul asked him for an effort he responded in style. He goes great for Paul and his record on him is great they really seem to get on well.”
Jockey Paul Hammersley was over the moon to see Robbers Cobber back in the winners stall after not having the best of luck in recent months “It’s great to see him back in the winners stall today, he has been a victim of bad luck over the last few months with wet tracks big weights and even being scratched behind the barriers so a bit of good luck was overdue. He found the line great today and really let down when I asked him to so I am sure there are more wins left in him.”
Robbers Cobber is owned by the Bain family and Co Trainer Daniel Guy thanked them for their continued support “It’s great to get another winner for Bill and Lyn they have been very patient with this horse, firstly before he came to our stable as a tried three year old and especially this preparation where not much has gone right, but that’s all in the past now and hopefully he can do what he did last prep and put a few together.”
