Junction headed to Aquis Park at the Gold Coast Turf Club today looking to turn his recent poor form around and did so with a tough hard win in the Racing Wednesday the February 20 Class One Handicap. The son of Real Saga has always shown above average ability but has been plagued by physical and mental issues since winning on debut over two years ago. But today’s victory indicated that he is back on track after settling midfield before unleashing a good finish and under strong riding from jockey Glen Colless.
Co Trainer Bryan Guy explained after the event that Junction has caused many a sleepless night for him because he has always shown more then he has delivered and with everybody’s patience running out with the horse he was doubting that he would have too many more chances “We thought his first up run was good but then his next two runs were poor and he was all but out the gate, but I thought we still had one trick up our sleeves and that was the addition of blinkers and thankfully it worked. Also I hate to say it but it was a good ride by Glen, he knows how to get the best out of these types of horses”.
Junction was ridden by Glen Colless who was having his first ride on the horse and had an air of confidence going into the event with the horses good track record “His last two starts were poor but if you look at his Gold Coast form it was good so I thought if I was able to get the best out of him then he had a chance. You can see why Team Guy put the blinkers on him he is a thinker but in saying that he really stuck his head out and had a go.
Co Trainer Daniel Guy was thankfully to the big group of owners who race the gelding under the Wylie Dalziel Racing syndication banner for their continued support and giving the stable one last chance with Junction “I have to say a big thanks to the owners for giving us one last chance, unfortunately until today we see something different in the mornings to what he shows us race day but hopefully now with the confidence of a win under his belt he can go on with the job.”
