Consistent race mare Felino Bel made a return to the winners stall today at Aquis Park at the Gold Coast Turf Club by taking out the Lea Insurance Brokers Class Five Plate over 1300 metres. The daughter of evergreen stallion Bel Esprit revelled in the heavy conditions to score by over One and a Half lengths with a further Four lengths to the third horse.
Felino Bel may not have been in the winners stall for Twelve months but she has been rarely out of the placing’s with her last three starts yielding two thirds and a close second placing and Co Trainer Bryan Guy explained after the race that why it’s good to be picking up prize money it has been frustrating that she has been unable to find the winner’s stall “It’s great to win another race with this mare, she could have easily been an open company mare by now but luck just hasn’t gone her way. Even this prep alone she could have won three before today but things just went against her. I know the owners have been wondering where she is at but I said to them after her last run that I would start her today and then look at a no metro win in two weeks, so hopefully she can keep the good luck going.
Felino Bel was ridden today by King of the Coast Daniel Griffin who has ridden the mare at her last three starts and he went into today’s race full of confidence “When the acceptance’s came out I thought surely Saturday will be her day. The small field helped because she has found trouble a few times this prep and today it was just a matter of keeping her out of trouble and riding her like she was the best horse in the race and she was able to get the job done. I am really pleased for the team and glad that I was able to bring about a change of luck for the mare.
Felino Bel now takes her record to Twenty Five race starts for Five wins Three Seconds and Three Thirds and her prize money is now just short of $100 000 and she will next step out at Doomben on the 13-7-19 in a Fillies and Mares No Metropolitan win race.
