Broncks headed to Ipswich today looking to improve on his recent second placing and the son of Better Than Ready didn’t disappoint by winning the Whittington at Grandview Stud QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate over 1350 Metres by One and a Half Lengths. The Gelding was ridden hard early to secure the lead not long after jumping and was then rated perfectly by jockey Daniel Griffin before being asked for his effort approaching the home turn showing a nice turn of foot to skip away upon straightening and was then able to hold his rivals at bay who struggled to whittle down the margin.
Broncks was having his seventh career start today and Co Trainer Bryan Guy had expected the gelding to have broken his maiden status before today but explained that the horse had a mind of his own at his first race preparation and it was just a matter of the penny dropping and the wins would start happening “He has showed us he had ability from an early stage on the track but race day was a different story, he just did too many things wrong so this prep we changed his gear and each run has seen his racing manners improve. He really put the writing on the wall last start and Dan (Griffin) suggested visors today and that seems to have got that little bit extra out of him.”
Broncks was rated perfectly today by Jockey Daniel Griffin who felt confident going into today’s event with the way the gelding has been racing and the way the race mapped on paper “It looked like his race today with little speed early we were able to dictate and I knew he would have to much in the locker for them to go past him. I suggested the visors after his last run and the gear change along with natural improvement, he was just too good. I think he will appreciate even more distance because all he wants to do is settle in the run which is a good sign going forward.”
Broncks is owned by long time stable client Rick Hill along with several friends and his breeder, and Co Trainer Daniel Guy was quick to thank Rick for his continued support of the stable, “Rick has been a client in the stable for over 20 years and you know you must be doing something right when you are able to keep clients that long. It’s also rewarding to see Rick put a syndicate of friends together to race this horse, they are a good bunch of people who enjoying their racing so hopefully we can get Broncks into the winners stall a few more times for them.”
