Vibrant City headed to Grafton today looking to break his maiden at his first start after winning a recent barrier trial and the son of Oamaru Force didn’t disappoint with a strong and determined win in the Coffee & Cookie maiden plate. The gelding who has been under the care of Team Guy for the last two months scored by a long neck and stopped the clock at 59.07 which was the quickest of the two maiden divisions.
Vibrant City has been a work in progress since entering the stable of Team Guy and he recently put the writing on the wall with his latest trail which was his first for the stable and Co Trainer Bryan Guy was confident of a good showing today “ I thought if he did everything right today he would be right in the finish and although he still did a couple of little things wrong there was a big improvement from the trial. He has improved every time we gallop him, he came to us only knowing one thing and that was to go too hard so it’s a big credit to the team back at the stables especially his regular work rider Kris”.
Vibrant City was ridden today by jockey Matthew McGuren who was having his first ride on the horse and he was pleasantly surprised with the fight the gelding showed considering it was his first start “ Bryan and Daniel were a little concerned he would want to go a little too hard but he sat off the leader and settled reasonably well, he got a little lost on the corner and when I balanced him up and asked for an effort he responded well and knuckled down for a strong win.”
Vibrant City scored his Hong Kong based owners their first Australian victory today and Co Trainer Daniel Guy stated after the race it was not only great to be a part of this achievement but both he and his father were thankful for their support “Vibrant City is owned by some great clients based in Hong Kong and while Daniel and Henry have only been in the stable for a short time they have shown great confidence in us by firstly transferring Vibrant City to us and recently purchasing a yearling at the Magic Millions sale. It’s great to have their support and hopefully this is the first of many wins for them.”
