Last start Ipswich winner Sizzlepel made it two wins from three starts today at Aquis Park at the Gold Coast Turf Club. The daughter of Sizzling proved that last Sunday’s win was no fluke when she took out the Remembering Our Walers Two Year Old Open Handicap with ease scoring by an ever-widening margin of two and a quarter lengths. Much like her maiden victory only days earlier the filly began well and quickly took control of the race and from that point on she was always going to be hard to run down.
Sizzlepel’s Co Trainer Bryan Guy explained after the event that he only considered running the filly after the release of nominations on Monday and her very good recovery from the race last Sunday “She was booked to go to the paddock on Tuesday but when we looked at the noms on Monday along with the way she pulled up from Sunday’s race we thought why not throw in a late nom and see if she continued to do well and she did. She is definitely booked in to go on Monday and have a good 8 weeks break”
Jockey Glen Colless was happy to get the late call up for today’s race after her convincing victory days earlier “That was another good
effort from this filly. She is a nice filly who still has a bit to learn so she looks to have a nice future. I was a bit surprised when Bryan and Daniel backed her up but they knew what they were doing she felt great”
Co Trainer Daniel Guy was a little surprised that the filly was being somewhat overlooked for today’s event given her recent victory “I was a little surprised that people were overlooking her win last Sunday, it looked on paper that she didn’t beat much but her time was very close to the benchmark 75 over the same distance and it was full of older horses and multiple winners. It seemed that everybody had the favourite a good thing and while it was scratched at the barriers and we will never know I still believe we would have made a race of it but that will need to wait for another day.”
