Two Year Old gelding Mandeville Rocker made a successful racing debut today at the Sunshine Coast by taking out the Apack Commercial Two Year Old Handicap over 1400 metres by one length. The well breed son of El Roca continued the recent success that Team Guy and new stable Client Orbis Bloodstock have had of late and today’s winner was the second from three starters this week for the combination. The horse had pleased Team Guy in a recent barrier trial and the Father and Son combination quickly identified him as a 1400 metre plus type of horse and had no hesitation in kicking off his career at the somewhat unusual debut distance.
Bryan Guy who trains in partnership with his son Daniel was on hand to add the final touches to the gelding today and left the racetrack a happy trainer, not only having trained another winner but with the recent good form the stable has been experiencing “it’s great to see a horse win on debut and it’s even better when they are able to do it off one trial and over 1400. He is a nice horse who looks to have plenty of upside as he isn’t there yet and still has a fair bit to grow. It’s been a good month for the stable, we have some nice young stock in the yard at the moment and they look to have upside so it looks like we could be in for a good run”
Daniel Griffin was having his first ride on Mandeville Rocker today and was more then happy to have received the call up from Team Guy “that was a nice win, I really like the way he won he is a real professional and I hope to stick with him as I doubt that was his last win. I have ridden a couple of nice horses of late for Orbis and Team Guy so they look like a good combination to be part of.”
Co Trainer Daniel Guy also noted the good relationship that the stable were building with their newest client and how important their involvement was to Team Guy “it’s great to have Orbis Bloodstock join the stable and it couldn’t have come at a better time for Dad and I as many of our foundation clients have retired from racing and we needed a rejuvenation of our stock and Orbis have done that. The stable has had a good record over the years and we would like to improve on that but it’s hard if you don’t have the horses but hopefully that’s about to change.”
