A couple of gear changes and some previous experience and knowledge was what the doctor ordered to get Vibrant City back in the winners stall today at Ipswich Turf Club when the gelding took out the Spring Carnival Events Book Now Class One Plate. The son of Oamaru Force had always shown talent but he is his own worst enemy and has been a battle to say the least for Team Guy but today with the removal of the nose roll along with the ear muffs the enigmatic galloper was able to put his best hoof forward and win his second race.

Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy explained after the event that much of the credit belonged to jockey Ben Thompson who suggested the removal of the gear after his most recent run and first ride on the horse “his last run was ok and Ben came in and said to take the nose roll and ear muffs off as he might begin better and be able to use his natural speed and he was one hundred percent right. It wasn’t a bad win as he had to work hard and clear the field and he kept running so on that run he may win again in the near future. It’s good to see him race true because he has been his own worst enemy since arriving at the stable.”

Ben Thompson was happy to land another winner for the Father and Son training team and felt the gelding had more to offer on his last start fourth placing “It’s great to get another winner for Bryan and Daniel and for the owners of this horse, he has been hard work in the past by all accounts but he gave me the impression he had more to give last start it was just a matter of unlocking that ability and the gear changers looks to have done the trick. I still think he has improvement if he learns to settle a bit better so I think he is still a work in progress.”

Daniel Guy who trains in partnership with his father Bryan thanked his owners who have enjoyed two winners in the last five days after Golden Eighty was able to win at Doomben last Saturday “This ownership group is having a good run at the moment, that’s their second win in five days and they deserve all the results they get. Daniel and Henry are based in Hong Kong and they love their horses and their racing so it’s good to get Vibrant City back into the winner’s stall, they are great supporters of our stable. I also have to pay a big thanks to this horses regular track work rider Kris Hansen as he is not an easy horse to ride and Kris has done a great job to teach him to settle.”
