Highlights brought back memory’s of one of Queensland’s best Trainer and Apprentice combinations when he took out the Hellbent First Crop At Magic Millions Maiden Plate over Sixteen Hundred Metres by just under a length. No stranger to the winners circle the combination were lethal during Michael Rodd’s apprenticeship and today could be the start of bigger things with the Team Guy building a nice team of horses. While thing’s didn’t go to plan for the son of Your Song there was no panic from either the rider or the trainer and they were rewarded with a performance that showed it could be the first of many wins.

Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy was over the moon to be back in the winners stall alongside his former star apprentice and explained that he was never worried when things didn’t go to the pre race plan “Michael and I thought that he would settle about 5th or 6th but that quickly went out the window when he began well and ended up in front, but I wasn’t worried as I had seen it time and time before with Michael and there was one thing I knew, he wouldn’t be going too hard and he would have something up his sleeve.”

Rodd who is enjoying his return to Queensland is in hot form and today’s ride illustrated why he has hit the ground running and the momentum is set to continue with the support of relationships made during his apprentice and he was happy to ride a city winner for Team Guy “It’s great to win another one for Bryan and Dan although the Team is a little bit different now, Bryan was the trainer during my apprenticeship and Dan did my rides so to see them both down as the trainer is a good thing. It wasn’t the plan to go forward but when things didn’t work out I knew I had to make a decision and Bryan understands this and in the end it didn’t matter. The horse is still learning and with race improvement he should win more races.”

Highlights was only having his third start today and had shown promise at his previous two starts and his win continued the good run that the owners Orbis Bloodstock are having and Co Trainer Daniel Guy thanked them for their continued support “It’s been a great start to the season for the stable and a big part of this is the young stock that Orbis Bloodstock have put into our stable. Unfortunatley we are only a small stable now so to be given the opportunity with these horses is very appreciated, that win now takes us to Ten Metropolitan winners this season so hopefully people start to take notice that we still know how to get winners.”
