Sabie Park headed to the Sunshine Coast today looking to make a winning debut and the son of Kermadec could not have been more impressive taking out the Moreton All Body Care Maiden Plate in great style. But the win nearly didn’t take place today when the gelding drew barrier 18 out of 21 in the original draw but connections had very little to worry about with the gelding displaying a strong sustained run to win by an every widening margin.
Sabie Park had put the writing on the wall with two recent barrier trials in which he showed a good final furlong in the 1000m heats but Co Trainer Bryan Guy’s confidence was dented when the barrier draws were released “We had this race picked out for him about a month ago but he nearly didn’t run when I saw the draw, I then nominated him for Thursday but we thought the big track would suit him given the way he finished off his trials. But he still had to do it the tough way with a wide run and in the end it was an easy win!”
The Michael Rodd, Team Guy combination continued their good run of late and winning jockey Michael Rodd see’s no reason why the good strike rate can’t continue “It’s getting to be a bit like the old days and if Team Guy keep bringing horses like that to the races it makes my job easy. That was a very nice win because we all thought he would be a bit slow out of the gates going on his trials but he jumped well and I had to go back and then I was caught deep but when I asked him to improve he did and let down really well.”
Sabie Park is owned by powerful bloodstock Group Orbis Bloodstock and co trainer Daniel Guy thanked them for their support of the stable “It’s great to get another winner for Orbis Bloodstock they have been good supporters of the stable in recent times and are big investors in the racing game so hopefully we can keep the winners rolling in for them.”
