Happy Babe headed to Aquis Park at the Gold Coast Turf looking to break his maiden at only his second start for Team Guy and the well bred son of Sebring didn’t let his connections down with a hard fought finish to nudge out the favourite in a photo finish. The gelding put the writing on the wall at his first start back from a spell and his first run north of the boarder when he finished second at Doomben a little over two weeks ago and with a increase in distance today he was able to get the job done in a determined manner.

Happy Babe’s Co Trainer Bryan Guy went into today’s race confident of a forward showing given the way he finished off at his first start for the stable “I thought if he brought the first up run to the races today he would run either first or second, I thought the favourite would be the hardest to beat and as it turned out they both cleared out to be in a race of their own. Another good thing about today was winning another race for Mr Lau, whom I have trained for, for over 25 years and I am more then happy to get another winner for him and the way this horse won today I doubt it will be his last win.”

Jockey Jon Grisdale made a rare visit to the Gold Coast today but was more then happy to make the trip up the Pacific Highway when he received a phone call from Co Trainer Bryan Guy during the week “Bryan rang my manger earlier in the week and said he had three rides for me and with any type of luck there could be a winner or two so I was more then happy to venture north. This horse‘s win was very strong today and he gives me the impression he will appreciate it longer and I think he will continue to improve with racing.”

Happy Babe has proved a work in progress since arriving at the Guy Stables and Co Trainer Daniel Guy paid special thanks to the behind the scenes team at the stable “Happy Babe arrived with a few issues and our vet and farrier have worked closely together to get this horse to the races, they have done a great job and you can see that the horse is pain free and really is happy! The best part about this horse is how far he has come from those early days so if the improvement continues he will give his owner some good times in the coming months.”
