A gear change made a world of difference for Macedon Flyer today at Aquis Park at the Gold Coast Turf Club when he took out the TOPGOLF Maiden Handicap in a tight finish. The gelding was having his second run back from a spell and improved sharply today after failing first up recently at Eagle Farm but that failure was put down to the horse getting his tongue over the bit and a tongue tie was added today and it resulted in a very different result.
Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy was quick to praise Mark Du Plessis who rode the gelding last start and suggested that a tongue tie would see a big improvement in the horse going forward “I have to give a big thanks to Mark Du Plessis who came in after his first up run and said don’t be too disappointed in the run as he got his tongue over the bit and that is why he stopped. It was also good to see Zac get a win for our stable he is a good kid whom I have a bit of time for, we give him a bit of a ribbing most mornings and he gives as good as he gets.”
Jockey Zac Lloyd was having his first ride on the gelding today and he bounced him out of the barriers to take the early lead and was never headed from that point on and held on to win by a very slim margin “That was a tough win to hold out the fast finishing horse that ran second. He began well which Bryan and Daniel thought he would and from that point it was just a matter of making him settle and make sure I had something left for the finish. He still did a few things wrong like looking at things all the way up the straight so I think he could improve on today’s effort.”
Macedon Flyer’s win continued the long association between the Guy Stable and client Louis Lau and Co Trainer Daniel Guy thanked Mr Lau for his continued support “It was good to get another win for Mr Lau who had been a client of the stable for some time. Personally I remember Louis and his wife Grace coming to the stable when my Grandfather was the trainer so it’s great to still be able to have horses for him and even better to get another winner for him.”
