DIOMEDES WINS ANOTHER 2YO RACE FOR TEAM GUY
Jun 28, 2017
Diomedes added another winner to Team Guy’s growing list of two-year-old winners this season in taking out the Mount Franklin Two Year Old Maiden Plate at Doomben this afternoon. The son of Golden Archer was having his second start today after putting the writing on the wall with a nice debut at the Gold Coast two and a half weeks ago when finishing a strong third placing over a shorter distance then today’s event. Diomedes became the stables fifth two year individual winner from only nine runners this season and with a month to go that figure will almost certainly rise. The win also brought up another winner for long time stable client Tony Valos who has been a client of the Guy Stables for over fifty years.Winning co trainer Bryan Guy was pleased with Diomedes effort but was over the moon to train another winner for Tony Valos “It was a good win today as he was only having his second start in a race and I do think that he will improve with age, but the best part about the win was that he is owned by the stables longest serving client and what a client he has been over the years. It’s rare that you find such loyalty in this game and when it comes to clients like Tony you can’t train enough winners for them to repay their loyalty”
Diomedes was ridden in today’s event but Robbie Fradd who took the horse to the lead early in the race and rated him at a steady pace and was able to kick away at the top of the straight and hold his rivals at bay, “Bryan didn’t really want to lead today and I understand why as he gave me the feel during running that he would be a better chaser and he did get a little lost in running and up the straight so he still has a little bit to learn but overall it was a good win and he will be improved by it”
Winning co trainer Daniel Guy commented after the race that today’s win continues a good run for the stable of late especially with its two year olds “The stable has been going well lately, we are happy with the way the two years olds have been racing, they were not an expensive group and there wasn’t a big number so its been good, but overall the stable has been going well, its unfortunate we don’t have the numbers that we once had and we all know it’s a numbers game and we would love to get our numbers back but all we can keep doing is winning races and hopefully the horses will return”. Daniel also praised thanks on the stables staff saying that the results the stable is getting is due to the hard work that the team puts in on a daily basis.
