ROBBERS COBBER STRONG TO THE LINE
Jun 30, 2017
Robbers Cobber appreciated the step up in distance today to take out the Under The Louvre At Grandview Stud Handicap at Ipswich Turf Club. The son of Star Witness had put the writing on the wall at his previous starts and the distance of today's event looked like it would be ideal. After beginning only fairly Robbers Cobber settled midfield but jockey Paul Hammersley didn't panic and waited for the landmark XXXX sign to make his race winning move and he chimed in at the furlong pole and was tough to the line to score by half a head.
Winning co trainer Bryan Guy explained after the event that Robbers Cobber just needed to mature mentally and the time that the owners had given him had done him the world of good "he came to the stable with a bit of a reputation and on occasions I can see why but he is progressing and now by the looks of it he might get over further which should settle him even more. He is a nice style of a horse and I doubt that will be his last win."
Winning jockey Paul Hammersley told connections after the race that it was a tough win given the way the race was run and where he was in running "I know the plan was to settle closer to the lead but when he was only fairly away that changed and they didn't go hard in the early or middle stages and he still finished off strongly so overall I am happy with the win and I can't see why he won't go further and win more races."
Robbers Cobber is owned by Bill and Lyn Bain who are new clients to the stable and have tasted success with both horses that they have in work with Team Guy and co trainer Daniel Guy was thankful for their support "it's great when you get new clients into the stable and you have a bit of luck for them, both their horses are now winners so the next aim will be to try and win a city class race for them."
