Improving gelding Robbers Cobber made it back to back wins today after winning the GC LOAN OPTIONS Class One Handicap over 1800 metres. The son of Star Witness achieved the rare feat of going from a maiden to a class one and winning and what made this win even more impressive was that he carried one and a half kilograms more then when he broke his maiden. The three year old has been a slow maturing horse but all that is behind him now and it looks like the step up to the middle distances has been the making of the horse.

Winning co trainer Bryan Guy was over then moon with the win and the way that the horse keeps improving “he is really on an upward spiral this horse, it has taken a little while for the penny to drop but he has come along way since joining our stable at the start of this preparation and I think he still has improvement in him. There were a couple of little things he did wrong in running and still proved too good even with the fifty eight and a half kilograms that he was asked to carry today. “ Asked about future plans for the horse Bryan said that he will continue to put him through his grades and see how far he can go.

Winning jockey Daniel Griffin produced another great ride slotting Robbers Cobber into the one, one position from an outside barrier and then made the race-winning move at the top of the straight to power away over the concluding stages and win the event by one and a half lengths. Upon returning to scale Daniel’s comments to connections backed up Team Guy’s opinion of the win “He is a nice progressive type who still did a couple of things wrong today but boy was he strong to the line. I think that if the races are run true he will continue to go through his grades and he did give me the feel that he may go even further which is great for connections.”

Winning Co Trainer Daniel Guy lamented on the day the stable could have had with all runners earning prize money “ We had five runners between two tracks today and all horses picked up prize money, we thought they would all be around the money so they ran up to expectations and while its always nice to get a winner it could easily have been a few more if luck had gone our way.” Daniel also thanked the connections of Robbers Cobber who have been clients of the stable for just under twelve months “It’s great to win races for new clients like Bill and Lyn Bain, they love their racing and its great to see the thrill they get when you have a winner like today.”
