KUIPER TOUGH TO THE LINE

Apr 18, 2018

Kuiper stepped out at Ipswich today looking to break his maiden after finishing third at his two most recent runs and the son of Dubleo didn’t disappoint scoring by just under half a length when he took out the second race. Jockey Jim Byrne took Kuiper who was having the seventh run this preparation to the lead early in the race in what proved a race-winning move.

Winning co trainer Bryan Guy was over the moon for the connections of Kuiper who have shown a tremendous amount of patience with the horse “it was great to finally win a race for the owners of Kuiper they are a great bunch of blokes and they really deserved this win. The horse had a few issues as a young horse and when they offered us the horse I said ok hopefully we can turn him around and get him to the winners stall for you.”

Kuiper was ridden in today’s event by Jim Byrne who was having his second ride on the gelding after finishing third on him last month at Doomben. The experience of having a ride on the horse certainly paid off when the jockey made a race winning move leaving the straight on the first occasion “he started to get on the steel when we went past the winning post the first time so instead of fighting him I let him stride. He still has a bit to learn as he does a lot wrong and if the penny does drop and he learns to travel you never know he might have a few more wins in him.

Kuiper will more then likely head to the paddock now before a decision is made on his future with co trainer Daniel Guy stating after the event the geldings future is unclear “Kuiper will now head to the paddock after that win, he has done a good job this prep and has come along way from a horse that looked like he might struggle to win a race. It’s unclear if he will return to the stable or possibly sold as a jumping prospect given he will stay all day but that’s a decision that will be made in the coming weeks.”
