SWEET ADALINE MAKES IT BACK TO BACK WINS

May 02, 2018

Consistent mare Sweet Adaline turned in another solid performance today at Toowoomba when scoring a tough fought victory in the Toowoomba Outdoor Power Products Class Two over 1625 Metres. The daughter of Lonhro settled just off the speed from the inside barrier and was quickly out and chasing the runaway leader at the top of the straight, working her way to the lead around the furlong pole under the impost of 59kg’s, she then fought off the late challenge from her rivals to score a narrow but decisive victory.

Sweet Adaline not only shrugged off her bridesmaid tag for good but also provided Team Guy with their first ever Toowoomba winner after 20 years in Queensland. Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy was over the moon that the gritty little mare has finally found the will to win “That was a bigger win then it looked, she is only a small mare and we were worried about the 59kg’s but when she drew the good barrier the owner Basil Nolan was keen to run her and thankfully he was right. That is also my first Toowoomba winner after setting up the stable in Queensland twenty years ago, I have run several placing’s in the cup and have probably had no more then a dozen runners over that time but at least the monkey’s off the back now”

Sweet Adaline was again ridden by Jim Byrne who is striking up an affinity with the mare with today’s ride being his eighth on her for two wins, and four second placing’s and he predicted after the event it won’t be her last “She is so tough, she puts herself into the race early and gives her all when asked. She was entitled to get beat today given the weight she had and the size that she is but she has a big heart, Bryan, Daniel and the team back at the stables have done a good job with her and I can’t see many reasons why she won’t win again.

Winning Co Trainer Daniel Guy praised the ride of Jim Byrne stating that since Jim reunited with the mare her form has gone to another level “You only have to look at her form she goes great for Jim and he has ridden her well each time it’s been bad luck that has seen her get beat not pilot error, in fact Dad and I think that Jim is riding in career best form.”

All going well Sweet Adaline will now head to a class three set weights in two weeks time at the Sunshine Coast over a mile and then have a short break before returning to the racetrack ahead of being sent to the breeding barn in the upcoming breeding season.
