PATIENCE PAYS OFF FOR LADY EIGHTY EIGHT

May 07, 2018

Talented but unlucky mare Lady Eighty Eight broke her maiden in fine style today at Ipswich in winning the Miners Federation Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap over 1350 metres. The daughter of Show A Heart again drew a wide barrier today but it made no difference with the mare scoring an easy four lengths victory after unleashing a powerful run just after the six hundred metre mark and upon turning for home easily reeling in her rivals to record a runaway win.

Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy explained after the event that the mare has had genuine excuses at all her previous eight starts “It’s not often you have a horse having it’s ninth run and she has had a genuine reason why she has not won any of those races, she has had all the bad luck in the world but hopefully that is all behind us now and she can put a few together which I am sure she can, and what about the ride it was a pearler. I said to Dan before he went out to ride her cold to offset the wide barrier and then approaching the six hundred metre mark get going on her and with the strong finish she has she will be too strong for them in the straight and he followed instructions perfectly.”

Winning Jockey Dan Griffin was very impressed with Lady Eighty Eight today and knew that she would be in with a good chance following her two most recent races “Today was her day she had two nice runs going into today and with the benefit of her last start over the distance I knew she would be very hard to beat. What I liked most about today is she gave them a start, went right around the field and put them away with ease, she is a nice mare and I am sure it won’t be the last time she see’s the winners stall.”

Winning Co Trainer Daniel Guy revealed after the race that this win was a special win for both Bryan and himself “Both Dad and I are over the moon to see this mare win for her owners the Sullivan Family who have shown a huge amount of patience with this mare. From the time they brought her they have put the horse’s best interests first as she was always going to take a little longer to mature then most horses so it’s great to see her win for them. Hopefully she can go on with the job now and win a few more races as she is only lightly raced.”
