MIOCIC PUTS UP A GOOD FIGHT
Jan 23, 2019
Miocic headed to Doomben today looking to atone for his debut failure when unplaced on a heavy track back in July last year. The son of Fighting Sun put that inglorious run behind him to storm to the lead at the furlong pole and run away from his rivals to score a good strong win when taking out the Girls Day Out Race Day Maiden Plate over Twelve Hundred Metres. Miocic has always shown team Guy something since joining their stable but has been slow maturing, but that all seems to be behind the gelding as he trialled well recently and was able to bring his trial and morning gallops form to the racetrack.
Winning Co trainer Bryan Guy was over the moon explaining that it had been somewhat frustrating that it had taken Miocic so long to get to the races and break his maiden “We originally got him off another trainer and things just didn’t go to plan. We thought he could win on debut but he didn’t handle the heavy conditions and then pulled up sore so it was back to the paddock. Thankfully his owners are patient and understand racing as some people would have given up on him, so it’s great to get the win for them especially at those odds”
Ryan Maloney who has only recently returned from injury rode Miocic for the first time today and whilst not knowing the horse it made little difference, he was initially a little slow to begin but was able to muster speed and find himself in the box seat and approaching the home turn was in need of a run but Maloney didn’t panic and his patience was rewarded with an inside run and from that point the race was over “That was a good strong win, I like the feel that he gave me and the way he hit the line. He gives me the impression he will be better suited over further so he looks to have a good future”.
Miocic capped off a good day for the Guy Stable having three runners for a winner and two thirds with Co Trainer Daniel Guy giving a sigh of relief after Miocic returned to the winners stall “It has been a little frustrating of late as we haven’t been having the best of luck. On the whole the horses have been going ok but you just can’t beat bad luck so hopefully today has changed that. We were pleased with the debut run of Accessory who looks to have a future and Knock Toff ran another good race today and is now looking for further so hopefully these two horses can visit the winners stall at their next starts”.
