SIDERO STAR BACK IN THE WINNERS STALL
Mar 23, 2019
Sidero Star made a welcome return to the winners stall today at Aquis Park at the Gold Coast Turf Club in taking out the Kurrawa Surf Club Benchmark 65 Handicap. The son of Siderus had put the writing on the wall at his most recent start when running fourth over an unsuitable distance but with the step up to 1800 metres today more to his liking he was able to score by half a length.
Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy was happy to see his charge back in the winners stall for the first time since September 2017 explaining that he rarely runs a bad race but only finds the winners stall on rare occasions “He is a great old horse and a real stable favourite. He doesn’t win often but rarely runs a bad race, we came here today confident he would run a good race after what Robbie Fradd said about his last run, he felt that he would be hard to beat if we stepped him up in distance. I also have to thank Paul Hammersley for a good ride he and Sidero seem to get on well.”
Winning Jockey Paul Hammersley continued his good association with the galloper and has now won two on the horse and countless minor placings “It’s good to get another win on the old boy because of late all I seem to have been doing is minor placing on him. He is a great horse to ride and you know if you are going to be in the finish at the six hundred metre mark because he picks the bit up and moves into the race and that is exactly what he did today.”
Sidero Star is owned by long time stable client Marie Neilan who a long with her husband Gil were the Guy Stables first local based client to send a horse to the stable when it relocated from Sydney and this is not lost on Co Trainer Daniel Guy “I am wrapped that we were able to get another winner for Marie because along with Gil they have been loyal owners of the stable for such along time. It is very rare these days that you find an owner that is loyal so hopefully now Sidero has found the winners stall he makes a return in the near future.”
