ACCESSORY BREAKS MAIDEN IN FINE STYLE
May 17, 2019
Accessory headed to Ipswich races today looking to find the winners stall having had three promising runs under his belt and the son of Epaulette didn’t let his supporters down in taking out the Channel Seven QTIS Two Year Old Maiden Plate over the 1350 metres. The gelding had shown that a win was not far off when he finished off well last start in an unsuitable race at the Gold Coast. He had previously run third at his first two starts but all of his runs indicated that he would appreciate a step up in distance.
Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy was a happy man after the race as he has always been of the opinion Accessory would be at his best when the race distances increased “He has shown something from day one but he was never the early speedy type, he gave the impression that a mile and beyond would be his ideal distance so it was just a matter of waiting. While I was pretty confident today the one thing that did worry me was it was only 1350m. If he pulls up well we will head to a mile race now and see how he handles that”
Accessory was ridden today by Mark Du Plessis who was having his third ride on the horse and was keen to ride him in today’s event “I said to Bryan And Daniel after last start he went great it was just too short and he needed distance so this race worked out well. I think he will improve on that as he was not suited to leading and he is a better chaser so although his win was good I know it could have been even better had he had horses to chase.”
Accessory is raced by a large group of owners who consist of long time family friends, old stable clients and new stable clients and Co Trainer Daniel Guy explained how this group ended up racing a the horse together “Dad was approached by an old friend who wanted to buy an Epaulette and they looked at a few and settled on this fellow, then it was a matter of finding other partners which in the end was pretty easy, the breeders kept a slice and a couple of Mum and Dad’s old friends took a piece and then with social media a few old stable clients along with a new client we were able to fill the horse, so it’s great to get a win for the group and I hope it’s the first of many.”
