SIDERO STAR AND CO WIND BACK THE CLOCK
Mar 03, 2020
Sidero Star headed to Grafton today looking to wind back the clock for both his trainer and jockey and the gelding didn’t disappoint by taking out the Book A Blues Brew & BBQ’s Marquee Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1710 metre by one and a half lengths. The son of Sidereus took full advantage of the inside barrier by beginning well and he settled just off the speed before making the most of a limited run at the top of the straight to burst to the front and run away from his rivals to score comfortably and bring up win number six
Co Trainer Bryan Guy had not given up hope of Sidero Star winning another race although he had not visited the winners stall for almost Twelve months “I was happy with the horse going into today’s race and I thought all he needed was a track that wasn’t rock hard. The jockey last start thought he was going to be in the finish but he felt the track but today was a different story. Also the ride was perfect and it was great to give Jon another winner, Dad gave Jon his first City winner so it was good to team up again”.
Jockey Jon Grisedale was having his first ride for Team Guy although he had ridden for Bryan in the past when Bryan trained in Sydney and he produced a perfect ride to get the best out of the horse. He explained after the race that he knew he would be in the finish along way from home “I knew I would be hard to beat along way from home as the old boy travelled so good and all I needed was things to go my way from the six hundred metre mark and when I was able to make the most of a run at the top of the straight it was all over”.
Sidero Star proves that patience pays when owning racehorses and Co Trainer Daniel Guy was thankful that his owner Marie Neilan backed the Father and Son’s advice after not much going right at his last few runs “It’s great to get Marie another win today she deserves this, it would have been easy to retire him on his last few starts but both Dad and I felt he could win again, all he needed was a softer track because he has really struggled to handle the hard summer tracks and the way he won today I doubt it will be his last win if we can strike the similar conditions again”.
