Team Guy and Michael Rodd stole the show today at Doomben with a winning double in what was reminiscent of a time gone by. The first winner came in the way of Eastern Paradise who has been building up to today’s win with recent good runs. Bryan was pleased with the son of Foxwedge saying after the event “he is a horse that has shown us ability from day one but it has taken some time for the penny to drop and even today he still did a couple of things wrong, but I do think in time he will make a horse”. Michael Rodd agreed with Bryan’s comments and said after the race that the gelding still had a lot to learn but it was great the way that he hit the line.
The second winner of the day came in the shape of Starcourt whom was the standout tip on the days card and was sent out the shortest priced favorite of the day and he didn’t let his supporters down with an effortless four and a half length victory. While the son of Stratum gaped his rivals in the straight and gave Michael an armchair ride he did have his moments “I was worried going to the barriers as he didn’t feel comfortable in the heavy conditions and while he looked good today I have no doubt it would have been a bigger win on top of the ground but as only good horses do he got the job done and in good style too.” Bryan praised Michael for his ride by saying “Its great to have Michael back in town and to have him ride double brings back memories of what a dominant force we were when he was apprenticed to me, I just wish he was back full time”
Starcourt will now be aimed at a 3yo Group Three race in a couple of weeks time with co trainer Daniel explaining that today’s win was all about breaking his maiden and giving him a confidence boost as he is a very lightly raced horse who has a bright future. Daniel also made mention that both horses were owned by Hong Kong based clients “we are very lucky to have the support of several Hong Kong based clients and they are a very important part of our stable going forward”
