Slydini recorded his first win for Team Guy today when leading all the way at Eagle Farm to score a strong front running win. The son of Magic Albert was a somewhat surprise leader with the plan being to take a sit but after beginning well jockey Paul Hammersley took the initiative when no other rider wanted to lead. This positive move proved a winning one with Slydini digging in for the fight in the straight to hold off his rivals and score by three quarters of a length. Jockey Hammersley said he was somewhat surprised by landing in the lead “we had discussed tactics before the race and it looked on paper that we would sit third or fourth but when we jumped so well and nothing wanted to go forward I thought we will take it up and see what happens and he showed great fight in the straight after being headed and on the line he was going as good as any other horse.”

Co Trainer Bryan Guy was full of praise for Paul Hammersley saying “Paul is an underrated jockey and you only have to watch the replay of that race to see a jockey who used his brains and got the right result”. Bryan also thanked the owners who had shown faith in Team Guy after they purchased Slydini from Sydney “It was an unexpected phone call to receive and I am glad that the Everingham’s and Woodhouse’s gave us the opportunity to train him. It just goes to show if people buy the right tried horses and send them north there are races for them, in fact it’s the second horse in the last couple of weeks that I have won with so I hope people are taking notice and a few more head up the highway”
