Slydini and jockey Janette Johnson made a successful return to the track today at Aquis Park at the Gold Coast Turf Club. Slydini was having his first run back this preparation and the son of Magic Albert broke his first up hoodoo to score by one length giving Janette Johnson her first winner in over three years, ironically it was for her former master Bryan Guy who now trains in partnership with his son Daniel.

Co Trainer Bryan Guy was elated to not only see Slydini return in great form and shed the perennial second placegetter tag but to provide Janette with a winner after a three year absence from race riding “That’s great not only for the horse who has really been a stable warhorse over the last twelve months but for Janette. She rode plenty of winners for the stable during her apprenticeship and it’s great to see her back in the saddle and in the winners stall. People just don’t know how hard she did it during her time with her weight so to come back today and pickup where she left off is a big effort.”

Winning Jockey Janette Johnson said after the race that she could not have found a better horse to have her first ride as a senior and felt that the horse was forward enough to win on his recent barrier trial “His trial was great in fact I was not planning to ride him in the trial until I ran into the Boss (Bryan Guy) and he asked me did I want to do a trial for him. I thought he went super so when I was offered the ride and he got my weight I thought I would give it a go and thankfully the horse put his best foot forward. I really have to thank the Boss, Dan and the owners for giving me the opportunity”

Co Trainer Daniel Guy explained after the event that today took the stable by surprise given his average first up form “He always takes a couple of runs to hit his peak and given his best form is over a mile we thought it maybe a little short for him but as so often has been the case in the past Janette has managed to get that little bit extra out of an old horse. I actually said before the race that if anybody could get that something extra out of Slydini it would be Janette given that she did doing similar things on older horses during her apprenticeship. It looks like we could be in for a good prep with the horse.”
