Felino Bel came with a well-timed run today at Ipswich when she took out the Buy Corona Infield Marquee Tix Fillies and Mares Benchmark 65 Handicap over 1200 metres. The daughter of Bel Esprit was taken back in the early stages of the race by jockey Jim Byrne and was given time to find her feet. Jockey Byrne then elected to save ground and ride for luck and take the inside runs that were on offer. It was a wise decision as valuable ground was saved and soon after straightening the filly found herself on the leaders back before she came around it’s heels to score an easy one and three quarter lengths win.

Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy said that he was a little concerned in the early part of the race after Felino Bel settled further back then what was originally planned but praised Jim Byrne for not losing his cool and knowing what he had underneath him “The plan was to settle just off the speed but with a quicker then anticipated early speed Jim took her back and got her into a good rhythm which enabled her to finish with a strong run. It was a good ride and a strong win and we feel she is a filly with a bit of upside”

Jockey Jim Byrne went into today’s race confident of a forward showing given the recent good runs by Felino Bel “I didn’t ride her first up but it was a good run and when I rode her second up she was unlucky that she had to make her run on the worst part of the track so today given fair luck I thought we would be hard to beat. She has a strong finish on her so riding her cold off a good speed helps her.”

Co Trainer Daniel Guy was pleased to win another race for the Bain Family after an earlier second placing with El Shaday “It was good to go one better then we did in the fourth race for Bill and Lyn, they are good supporters of the stable who love their horses and the races. As Dad said this filly has upside she is only lightly raced and with natural improvement she might just take the next step from mid week metro fillies and mares to Saturday fillies and mares after the carnival.
