Angela’s Beauty turned her form around today with a strong and determined win in taking out the Savco Benchmark 62 Handicap at Ipswich over 1666 metres this afternoon. The daughter of Daliapour has been in somewhat of a form slump but with an increase in distance and a good ride from jockey Mark Du Plessis the mare was able to put all that behind her and score by just under half a length.
The win came as no surprise to Co Trainer Bryan Guy who headed to the races today expecting a forward showing from the mare “I thought she had a top three chance today, her first two runs back from a spell have been ok given they were only over 1400 metres and she didn’t get much room at a vital stage last start and should have finished closer. Her work last Saturday indicated she wasn’t far off the mark and then on Tuesday she backed it up, the only concern I had was that today’s race wouldn’t be far enough so given she raced like she did there could be bigger things in the future when we increase the distance”.
Angela’s Beauty was ridden today by Mark Du Plessis who was having his second ride on the mare but today’s result was a world away from his first ride on her “I had ridden her previously to a mid field result last prep but today she was a completely different horse, I really like the way she attacked the line and going forward it looks like connections could be in for a good prep.”
Angela’s Beauty is raced by the Ikin family and winning Co Trainer Daniel Guy thanked them for their continued support given the mare had lost form last prep “We have to say a big thanks to Steve and Mandi who showed great faith in Dad and I in giving this mare another chance. Things didn’t go right last time in work and her form showed she might struggle to win another race but we asked for one more prep believing that she still had wins in her so thankfully we were proven right. The best part about today is her form usually hits a peak when she gets over further so that shouldn’t be her last win.
