Momentum To Win headed to Eagle Farm today looking to take the next step from a provincial / midweek benchmark type of horse to a Saturday Metropolitan horse and the son of Animal Kingdom didn’t let his connections down when he took out The Village Kitchen Ascot Class Six Handicap over 1800 metres. While the margin may only have been small the win was full of tenacity as the gelding was headed midway down the straight but he was able to fight back and gain the upper hand after strong riding from jockey Jim Byrne.
Co Trainer Bryan Guy went into today’s event with an air of confidence as it was the first time in a long time that the horse was down in the weights and had drawn a good barrier “I thought he had a great chance today because his last few runs have been good from bad barriers and bigger weights. I know his overall win strike rate might not be the best but it’s not because he doesn’t try rather he often finds just enough trouble in the run to get him beat. Also it was a great ride by Jim he positioned him perfectly and was able to get the best out of him.”
Winning rider Jim Byrne saw the writing was on the wall after the horses unlucky last start and went into today’s race feeling he was on the horse to beat “I watched the replay of his last start after the race with Bryan and Daniel and I thought the run had plenty of merit as he was posted wide from a bad barrier so when I was asked to ride him today it was easy to say yes. It was a nice win he had a few things in his favor which helped us get the right result but in saying that he still had to show a bit of ticker and dig deep to secure the win.”
Momentum To Win is owned by a Hong Kong client who moved the horse to the Gold Coast stable of Team Guy after starting his career in Sydney and Co Trainer Daniel Guy was thankful that they were entrusted with the training of the gelding “We must say a big thanks to his owner William for giving us the opportunity to train this horse. He arrived at our stable with moderate form at best but we have now won 3 races and seven minor placing’s with him and today’s Saturday Class win takes the horse to another level. Hopefully some people down south take notice of this and send their horses up north because you never know a change of scenery might work wonders like it has with Momentum To Win.”
