Recent arrival to the Queensland racing scene I Am Swerving showed he is here to do more then just make up the numbers when the son of I Am Invincible stepped out in the Kirin 3yo Colts and Gelding Maiden over 1200m. The gelding overcame a wide barrier to score by one and a quarter lengths and stopping the clock at a new race record time of 1:11:34 with a final 600m sectional of an impressive 33:84.

Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy explained after the event that the main reason for the horse finding himself in the Sunshine State was that there were a couple of ideal races at set weights “He was sent north by Orbis Bloodstock on the advice of Team Hawkes because there are a few nice set weight races that he gets in very well and on his Two year old form he should go through his grades. I am very thankful to Orbis Bloodstock and Team Hawkes for giving us the opportunity to train him.”

The one negative going into today’s race was the outside barrier but a masterful ride by jockey Ryan Maloney offset what could have spoiled today’s result, and the jockey was quick to state after the race that the gelding has good upside seeing he is still learning “That was a nice win he still did a couple of little things wrong and he still needs to learn a little but he looks to have a nice future going forward.”

I Am Swerving’s win brought up a double for Team Guy for the day after Eagle’s Forever was able to score earlier in the day and co trainer Daniel Guy was a pleased man “It’s been a good day today for the stable, to walk away with a winner is good but two is fantastic. It’s not only good for the owners but also for the staff back at the stable that do a good job and without their efforts we wouldn’t be celebrating a double today.”
