The outside barrier proved no problem for promising gelding Clearance Sale today at Eagle Farm with the son of Hinchinbrook asserting his class in the BRC Spring Carnival On Sale Maiden Handicap. The gelding had put the writing on the wall at his previous start when he finished a strong second placing and with that run under his belt and a step up in distance he was sent out race favorite and he didn’t disappoint winning by Two and a Quarter lengths and breaking the race record.

Team Guy who train Clearance Sale have been having a good run with their stable of late and Co Trainer Bryan Guy explained after the event that it has to do with the quality of stock that is currently in the stable “That is three city winners from our last two race day’s in town so the horses are racing well. We have a few nice three year olds at the moment and it is making a big difference to what we have had over the last few years. We also have to say a big thanks to Orbis Bloodstock which are supporting the stable with some nice horses.”

Winning Jockey Ben Thompson had his work cut out from the outside barrier but the young rider didn’t panic when things didn’t go to the prerace plan “The plan was to just be off the speed but not much went right from the barriers as he settled back further then what we all wanted, then interference happened in front of us and we were forced three deep a long way from home but I knew I was on the best horse so I just let him get into a good rhythm and he had them covered a long way out. He looks a progressive type and I think that Bryan, Daniel and the Orbis Team have a nice horse on their hands”

Today’s win was the first winner that young newly arrived to Queensland Jockey Ben Thompson has ridden for Team Guy and Co Trainer Daniel Guy said that it won’t be his last “Ben has been doing a bit of riding for us since moving from Melbourne and we have been happy with his rides and we feel he has a pretty good future in the Sunshine State as you can see by the ride today he didn’t panic when things didn’t go to plan which is a good sign. I feel we are pretty well placed at the moment in Queensland, as it’s probably the best group of riders we have had in some time.”
