Applications headed to Aquis Park at the Gold Coast Turf Club today looking to break his maiden and did so in good style after settling well back and circling the field to hit the front in the shadows of the post to score by just under half a length to take out the Saxon Campbell Maiden Handicap. The son of Tavistock has shown promise in the past but needed time to mature and his current ownership group were more then happy to give him that time and are now being rewarded for their patience.

Winning Co Trainer Bryan Guy was a relieved man as he had purchased the gelding after his previous owners decided they no longer wanted to race him after his debut run “I am so happy that this horse returned a winner today as I brought the horse after his first start and syndicated him amongst a group of existing and new stable clients. I was always of the view that he would stay and todays win showed that and Noel gave him a good wrap so hopefully he can now go on with the job and repay his owners.”

Jockey Noel Callow was a late replacement rider after his initial rider Paul Hammersley called in sick but the current premiership leading jockey took the bull by the horns and delivered a race winning ride “I wasn’t able to do much form after the late call up and Bryan and Daniel thought that he would race handy but when a few went faster then expected I elected to sit him back and then peel wide from about the three furlong pole and from that point I felt like he would be in the finish. It was a good strong win and he gave me the feel of a real stayer.”

Daniel Guy who trains Applications in partnership with his father was also very happy to see the gelding return as well as he did and while original jockey Paul Hammersley unfortunately couldn’t ride the gelding today it didn’t go unnoticed the work that Paul had put into the horse “Noel rode the horse well today on such short notice but a big part of todays win belongs to Paul as he rides this horse every morning and has really taught this horse to settle and while it’s disappointing for Paul I am over the moon for the owners of this horse they are a great bunch of people who enjoy their racing so it’s a good day whenever we go to the races.”
