King’s Contract headed to Ipswich today looking to break his maiden and the son of Husson didn’t disappoint by taking out the Kingsley Lawson Lawyers Maiden Handicap over 1400m by Four Lengths. The gelding has always shown potential and it was not a surprise to see him win the way that he did after settling just off the speed and making a race winning move approaching the 600m with the most impressive part being the way that he sustained his run right to the line.

Co Trainer Daniel Guy who also part owns the gelding was over the moon with today’s effort and explained that he was a little surprised it took the horse ten starts to break his maiden “That was a good strong effort today and it was great to see him attack the line the way that he did. I must admit that I thought he would have broken his maiden earlier but to be fair things haven’t gone right on a few occasions and he has been a slow learner but hopefully that win will send him on his way.”

King’s Contract was ridden today by Chris Whiteley who rode the gelding perfectly after settling him just behind the speed before asking him for his effort approaching the home turn and the race was all over from that point. Another big factor was the input that the jockey was able to gain in his track gallops “I have ridden him a few times in gallops and he works strong and I thought that if he brought his work to the race he would go close, also I think the soft conditions helped him.”

The win also continued the winners to come out of the family started by the late Ray Guy back in the early 1970’s and continued by Co Trainer Bryan Guy whom was happy to see another winner come from the long list of winners that the family has produced “ That is another winner for the family that Dad started all those years ago so it’s good to see it’s still getting winners. Also I have some great long time friends in the horse and while they couldn’t be on track today I am sure they have enjoyed the win”.
